The couplings made by The Greenwich and District Narrow Gauge Railway Society are intended for 4mm scale narrow gauge models. They were developed at a time when there was a lack of standardisation in couplings for 009 (4mm scale 9mm guage) that could auto uncouple and couple up again. This standardisation allowed members of the society to run their stock on each others layouts when the opportunity arose, and made exhibiting layouts much easier.

They couplings are etched brass and come as a kit with instructions. I also produced a video many years ago  to help those assembling them for the first time. Apologies for the quality but it was good in 2008.

In 009 these couplings have almost become the defacto standard amongst 009 modellers.  There is also a 7mm scale version available but some 7mm modellers also use the 4mm version. They are available from several suppliers including Light Railway Stores and  Dundas Models.
